Sermorelin is a synthetic analog of the first 29 amino acids of growth-hormone-releasing hormone, the portion that carries its biological activity. It is studied for its ability to stimulate endogenous growth-hormone release and is a frequent tool in endocrine and somatotropic-axis research, including work on pituitary reserve.
Researchers identified the N-terminal 29-residue segment as the active core of GHRH, and sermorelin (GRF 1-29) was synthesized to reproduce it. Because it triggers the body's own growth-hormone machinery rather than replacing the hormone, it was characterized as both a research probe and a diagnostic tool for assessing pituitary GH reserve and somatotropic signaling.
Sermorelin has been examined in endocrine models for GHRH-receptor binding, growth-hormone-pulse stimulation, and IGF-1 axis dynamics. Because it works through the native GHRH receptor, sermorelin lets researchers study growth-hormone release in a form that preserves the axis's own pulsatile control rather than overriding it. That property is what keeps it useful for characterizing pituitary responsiveness and somatotropic signaling in laboratory settings.
